“What They Said at Christmas,” Gabriel
December 17th 2015
In Luke 1: 28-29, the angel Gabriel is speaking to Mary: ““Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.’ But Mary was greatly troubled at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this might be. And the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.’”
It’s interesting that Mary was more troubled about how she was greeted more than the fact that an angel was talking with her face to face. I don’t know about you, but I haven’t had many conversations with angels, so this would be a BIG deal with me. Mary was troubled because it was strange to her to be called “favored one.”
We’re not so different from Mary. Many of us have trouble with believing who we really are in the Kingdom.
This is who you are: You are part of a royal priesthood and holy nation. Not only that, but you are sanctified, justified, holy; you are free, powerful, without fear; you are a new creature, and you are His workmanship; you are more than a conqueror, a joint heir and overcomer! The Holy Spirit lives in you and you can do all things in Christ. This is who you are!
Each day, say out loud: “I am…” and then fill in the blank with your identity in Christ. Jesus came to earth so that you could enter freely into the full inheritance as a child of God. It’s time to agree with all that God says about you. Because of Jesus you, too, have found favor with God.
